July 3, 2012 Coordinators Report to the Board
Downtown Development
• The new owners of Montana Expressions West - Karen Cramer and Stephanie Hanson have
renamed their business Beckman's Fine Furnishing. The Stone Chair has closed and a new
business Big Bear Fire Power will open mid June.
• Line-X and Advanced Powder Coating have offered bids to paint the bench leg/arms in the BID
District. Line-X removed and replaced a bench so that they could offer a solid bid on the project.
Advanced Powder Coating looked at the benches and then offered a bid. LineX has a two year
limited warranty and Advanced Powder Coating has a 1 hear warranty on the finish. Prices will be
discussed and presented at the meeting.
• I reported at the last meeting that Main Street has 37 decorative light poles, First Ave. E., 48
decorative light poles, lst Ave. W. has 37 decorative light poles and 2nd Ave. W. has 20. The total
number of decorative light poles is 142. I also reported that the price for a hanging pot would be
$45.00 each, I have subsequently visited with 3 other nursery's and have found that Wild Geese
Gardens would sell us the pots for $27.50 each. The problem remains with the watering of the
flowers. I have been informed that the flowers need to be watered twice a day during the summer,
including Saturday and Sunday. Our downtown advocate could water once per day Monday —
Friday but we would need a volunteer or second employee to water the second time and also on
weekends. Watering could happen with a water tank pulled behind the cart (cost approximately
$300.00) or with a separate 4 wheel cart that holds extensive hose (cost approximately $100.00
plus hose of $120.00). I believe we could secure enough businesses that would be willing to allow
us to use their faucet for watering the plants... A discussion regarding this item is in order.
MEETINGS
• Attended the Kalispell City Council meeting and represented the KDA regarding the Kalispell
City Airport.
COMMUNICATION/COORDINATION
• Your final budget numbers for your review and adoption.
• Wooden coin program is the "hot" item at the Chamber of Commerce. We are in the process of
printing more maps and additional coins have been ordered. Vonnie Day from the KCVB believes
this is a great advertising option for the downtown and strongly supports the continuation.
• The CORE review committee continues to meet discussing the railroad corridor. This committee
which I chair should complete their work by the end of July.
• DNS Technologies — Dave Bailon is working with me on our computer/printing needs. Per your
authorization at the last meeting, Dave will be purchasing the items and installing within the next
two weeks.
• Jim Comer has been our temporary downtown ambassador while Paul Faesel was out with knee
surgery. Paul returned to work on Monday, June 4.
EVENTS
• We held our 2nd First Fridays in Downtown Kalispell this last Friday June 1. Downtown
establishments remained open until 8:00 with special discounts, food and some drinks. May 1 was
well attended and June 1 was slightly less probably due to the Graduation at Flathead High
School.
• Thursday!Fest begins June 28 — September 6. We have secured the bands for all of the events,
new security and volunteers to assist with ticket sales and beer/wine purchase. I am in need of a
volunteer to assist with check in and check out. Please contact me if you know of someone that
would be a great volunteer assistant.
