Foyer Project for Police and Fire Departmentsflu •�Ew Q� SP �0 The Kalispell _. o 0v wllS� To: From: RE: Date: Mayor, Council, City Manager Chief of Police, Frank Garner Foyer remodel March 20, 2002 Department The Police and Fire Departments have utilized a small T.I.F. fund to attempt to solve some of the critical space needs in their departments. Bids will be sought in four specific areas. Diagrams will be made available at the workshop. Foyer: The WRICOPS assessment of the police department identified a need for reception at the front lobby of the police department. The department will provide space for a reception desk in front of a new hallway area that leads to both the police and fire departments. The reception counter will be moved and a large records room space will be constructed to provide additional space in the department for further remodeling. Juvenile Holding/Interview Room The addition of a records room will provide space inside the department to construct an additional interview room and juvenile holding space. The space must be constructed to meet the stringent requirements for holding juveniles and still be flexible enough to use for interviews. Currently the department has no juvenile holding space and only one interview room It is essential to separate witnesses and suspects for interviews and the space is sorely needed. We currently have no area to separate juveniles from adults. Detective/Administrative The detective's office will be reconfigured to allow some office space for the Patrol Lieutenant and to better align the divisions. The Patrol Lieutenant currently has office space in what was previously used as a file cabinet space. Fire Fire will assume the council office for medical records. An additional office space will be built neat to the City Manager's office to replace that space. This would allow the reception position to be moved to the area in front of police and fire.
