SUBJECT: Upper Zone ''water Storage and Production Yioject — ConkuWant Presentation
MEETING DATE: 28 November 2005
The 2002 Kalispell Facility Flan identified critical needs for addItional water storage and
water production capability 1n the City`s upper water pressure zone. This water service area
serves most of north Kalispell and virtually all the new developing areas west of Kalispell along
Three Mile Drive. The current budget includes .funds for both new production facilities (water
well) and additional storage water tam.) within the upper pressure zone. The first task of this
project was to identify the most appropriate location(s) for these new facilities. Robert Peccia
and Associates was retained to engineer these projects and the Peccia engineers have devoted.
their initial e forts to accomplishing these 'important first steps for the project.
Storage needs and production .seeds were dealt with as separate but related issues.
Several potential storage tank sites for at -grade, elevated, and in -ground tanks were identified
and assessed. Tank location is generally constrained by topography and the need to match
existing operating pressures within the service zone. Tank options also were assessed for cost -to -
budget and optimum size In light of recent growth in the service zone. A desirable site has been
identified and the landowner has indicated a willingness to work with the City on this project.
Similarly, water well sites were investigated with several Factors in mind. Among these
were possible prop mity to a new tank (for maximizing use of acquired land), optimum locations
for attachment to existing distribution facilities, potential for high rates of production, and
potential .for using existing City -owned property to reduce costs.
Robert peia engineers will be at the work session to discuss the first phase of work and
their recommendations.
