ltf : Credit card fees
We have put off accepting credit cards in the water department for some time but we are
getting more and more pressure from the public to accept then. We do accept plastic for
ambulance charges and the judge accents them and runs therm thru her bond account.
To accept credit cards in the water department we will go through American Data Croup
and set up their program on the file server so that every transaction interfaces with the
accounts receivable customer ledger. Payments will all be; on the internet. We will set up
a local merchant account at the bank.
Poly question for the Council, assuming that we go ahead with credit card processing. do
we want to charge a fee? The County charges a 3% fee for use of credit cards for paying
taxes. Fees are provided for in the statutes. However, the calculation could be
cumbersome. My suggestion would be look at the usage after a year and see what the
costs are. The benefit of using credit cards is that some customers will pay sooner_
