Downtown Two-Ninety Three ProjectCI'bty of Kall"spell Past Office Box 1997 - Kalispell, Montana 59903-1997 - Telephone (406) 758-7000 Fax - (406) 758-7759 TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: James H. Patrick, City Manager SUBJECT: Hwy 2 and 93 Project MEETING DATE: November 19, 2007 BACKGROUND: During the US Hwy 93 rebuild several years ago, right of way at the corners of Main and Idaho (US 93 and US2) was purchased by MDT to enlarge the intersection and to develop pocket parks. The plan was to put statuary at each of the four corners. The Hockaday Art Museum was asked to assist in the process of solicitation of artists interested in displaying their work, selection of the art pieces and coordination of the display. Council budgeted money for the purpose of purchasing the first pieces of art in this year's budget. The Hockaday has made their recommendations for the first pieces. The first will be two white tail bucks by Sherri Saunders. The next will be a Grizzly sow and two cubs by Daniel Parker. MDT has indicated that they wish to be a partner with the City. MDT has requested that the City prepare a funding; request to use highway beautification money to assist in funding the project. As owners of the right of way, they will give the City permission to use of the right of way for the project. Parks and Recreation is the lead Department to prepare the written request, work with the Hockaday and the artist in designing and building the display area, and maintaining the park. The first sculpture is scheduled for delivery in the spring of ZOOS. Respectfully submitted, k James H. Patrick City Manager Fred A.
