SUBJECT: Community Center Update
MEETING DATE: May 14, 2007
BACK GROUND: Kalispell City Council appointed an Advisory Committee
on August 15, 2005. The committee has been meeting since January 3, 2006 to
the present. This committee has completed extensive research through surveys,
site reviews, and facility visits. Interest in a public, multiuse community center
was expressed in a variety of forums including the April 4, 2006 community
workshop, the 2006 Recreation Survey, and the 2006 Community Center Survey.
Bob white & Gib Bissel will be representing the Community Center committee in
its recommendations to the council and presentation of information. They will be
available to answer questions and concerns.
RECOMMENDATION: With the community process drawing to a close, the
committee's recommendations would be to urge the city council to move forward
to the next phase of determining the viability and feasibility of the Kalispell
Community Center by the hiring of a professional consultant to do the following:
committee objectives, site location, design. Construction cost estimates, funding
strategies &. finances, management, operational costs, projected revenue,
maintenances, staffing, potential partnership opportunities for revenues, evaluating
community center models, timeline for implementation, marketing, and operation.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Committee is requesting up to $50,000 for a consultant
depending on the scope of the RFP,
