General .aviation Fast Facts
• General Aviation encompasses all flight operations that are not part of
the military or the airlines.
® 166 million passengers a year fly on the small airplanes of General
Aviation, making it our nation's largest "airline."
America's crop yields would drop by 50% without the routine
agricultural use of General Aviation.
General Aviation is responsible for 1.3 million jobs and $102.1 billion of
annual economic activity in the U.S.
e America is blessed with nearly 20,000 airports. The airlines only serve
540 of these, or less than 3 %, with 70% of airline traffic going to only 30
hub airports!
General Aviation encompasses 95 % of all aircraft and 75 % of all takeoffs
and landings in the U.S.
Almost 70% of the 31 million hours flown by GA every year are flown
for business purposes.
GA is safe. Since 1950, the General Aviation accident rate per 100,000
flying hours has been cut by SG%.
* Air shoves are America's #2 live spectator sport, with 26 million annual
visitors.
90% of all new airline pilots were trained by private civilian flight
schools.
