Award Bid - Highway 93 Bike/Pedestrian Path - Phase ICity of Kalispell Post Office Box 1997 - Kalispell, Montana 59903 Telephone: (406) 758-7701 Fax: (406) 758-7758 REPORT TO: Doug Russell, City Manager I FROM: Mike Baker, Director, Parks and Recreation SUBJECT: Award Bid — Highway 93 Bike/Pedestrian Path MEETING DATE: August 5, 2013 BACKGROUND: Two bids were received to begin the construction of a bicycle/pedestrian path along the east side of Highway 93 starting at North Meridian Road. The Invitation for Bid requested a base bid for Phase I, from North Meridian to Sunnyview Lane, along with separate bids on Alternates #1 and #2 which would connect Sunnyview Lane to Conway Drive. At this time, the city only has grant funding from the Community Transportation Enhancement Program (CTEP) for Phase I. Alternates #1 and #2, however, will be eligible for grant funding through the "Transportation Alternatives Program" later this fiscal year. LHC submitted a base bid of $82,964.53 with Sandon Construction bidding $84,487.25. The bids for Alternates #1 and #2 are included in the attached information. RECOMMENDATION: Council award the contract for Phase 1 of the Highway 93 Bike/Pedestrian Path from North Meridian to Sunnyview Lane to LHC, Inc. in the amount of $82,964.53. FISCAL EFFECTS: For Phase I, the city is responsible for $17,504.00 in matching funds, $11,819.00 of which has already been awarded through a Recreational Trails Program grant. The balance of $5,655.00 will be paid from trail and parks -in -lieu funds. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Council.
