5. Resolution 4613 - Stop Sign InstallationrThe Kalispell Q0 TA D pOD REPORT: FROM: SUBJECT: Honorable Mayor and City Council Frank Garner, Chief of Police Department Stop sign installation at 2"d Ave EN & E. Washington MEETING DATE: May 21, 2001 BACKGROUND: Following the request from Roni Palicz about her concern for safety at 2"d Ave EN & Washington Street, we studied the accident history at that intersection to determine if the warrants were met under MUTCD for a stop sign. We additionally requested Public Works conduct a traffic analysis to determine the appropriate installation, if any, for the signs. Both the traffic analysis and the accident history indicate a two-way stop sign at that intersection is warranted under the MUTCD standards. The traffic analysis shows East Washington is the primary street which requires the stop signs to be placed on 2nd Ave EN at the intersection of East Washington I am therefore recommending the council pass a resolution to allow for the installation of stop signs on 2"d Ave EN at East Washington Street. RECOMMENDATIONS: Council should pass a resolution allowing for stop signs on 2"1 Ave EN & East Washington Street. FISCAL EFFECTS: None ALTERNATIVES: As recommended by Council. Respectfully submitted, Chief of Police C"A' 9 Chris Kukulski City Manager #%XAN Q0 Frank Gamer, Chief of Police • Jim Brown, Asst.
