Resolution 4611 - Lions Park4PCity of Kalispell Post Office Box 1997 - Kalispell, Montana 59903-1997 -Telephone (406)758-7700 Fax(406)758-7758 REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Michael Baker, Director of Parks & Recreation SUBJECT: Lions Park MEETING DATE: May 9, 2001 BACK GROUND: The City has been requested by the Kalispell Lions Club to designate the City Park known as Lions Park, located on Highway 93 South, as a "permanent' park. Mr. Wagnild has worked closely with the Parks and Recreation Department in an effort to improve, protect and preserve the Lions park. The original purchase made in 1928 and has been an entrance landmark to Kalispell since theft. I sincerely believe if the City is to preserve this small piece of open space for the future, an appropriate action would be to dedicate the site as a "permanent' City RECOMMENDATION: Council action to declare Lions Park a permanent City Park. """`l - Michael Baker, Director of Parks Attachments - Chris Kukulski, City Manager Report Compiled May 2, 2001 RESOLUTION NO. 4611 A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE KALISPELL LIONS CLUB, TO THE CITY OF KALISPELL AND DESIGNATING THE CITY PARK BOUNDED BY U.S. HIGHWAY 93 AND THIRD AVENUE EAST AS KALISPELL LIONS MEMORIAL PARK. WHEREAS, in 1961, the Kalispell Lions Club commenced development of a park known as South Side Park, and WHEREAS, through the efforts of its members, the Kalispell Lions Club has nurtured the area, creating an appealing entrance to the City, as well as serving as a travelers rest area, and WHEREAS, the importance of such an addition to the City of Kalispell will only increase as the City grows and attracts more businesses, residents and tourists, and WHEREAS, the park created because of the Lions benevolence exemplifies beneficial use of limited resources, through cooperative efforts, resulting in a desirable addition to the City of Kalispell. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KALISPELL, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. That the City Park, located between U.S. Highway #93 and 3rd Avenue East, and South of Lions Park Street, is hereby designated and dedicated as Kalispell Lions Memorial Park in recognition of the civic contributions made by the Kalispell Lions Club to the Park and to the City of Kalispell in general. SECTION II. That the Mayor shall by this Resolution be authorized and directed to issue a Proclamation of the City of Kalispell designating and dedicating said Park as Kalispell Lions Memorial Park. SECTION III. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage by the City Council and approval by the Mayor.
