SUBJECT: Award Bid, SID 4343 Improvements
MEETING DATE: May 7, 2001
BACKGROUND: Bids for SID #343, the reconstruction of Sunny View Lane, construction of
Heritage Way and improvements in Buffalo Commons Phase V, were advertised and due on May
1, 2001. A total of five bids were received by the deadline. All bids were in the proper form. The
bid recommendation and the engineer's tabulation of bids are shown on the attached information.
Low bidder for the work is A-1 Paving which bid $679,938.10 for the base bid and $42,155.40
for the additive alternate. Total bid from A-1 Paving for all work is $722,093.50. After reviewing
the engineer's data, Public Works concurs with the award recommendation.
RECOMMENDATION: We recommend award of the bid for Special Improvements District
#343 to A-1 Paving based on the low bid of $722,093.50.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Expenditure of bond funds as indicated.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Council.

Here is the corrected and cleaned up version of the bid tabulation
for the SID #343 in Kalispell.
The apparent low bidder remains as A-1 Paving.
Their bid of $679,938.10 for the base bid and
$42,155.40 for Additive Alternate #1
amount to a total of $722,093.50.
Although the total amount is 20 percent under the engineers
estimate, there is evidence that the bid amount is a accurate as
four of the bidders were in a tight group ranging from $722 to $769
thousand dollars. The high bidder was within 7 percent of the
engineers estimate.
I would concur in recommending award to A-1 Paving, based on
the bid presented.
