7. Ordinance 1379 - Salary Ordinance Amendment - Judge's Salary - 1st Reading40 City of Kalispell
Post Office Box 1997 - Kalispell, Montana 59903-1997 - Telephone (406)758-7700 Fa (406)758-7758
REPORT TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Judge Heidi Ulbricht
SUBJECT: Salary and yearly adjustment
MEETING DATE: January 22, 2001
BACKGROUND: In January 1997 the Kalispell City Court was converted to
Kalispell Municipal Court requiring the Judge to be an attorney. Further, Kalispell City
Ordinance § 2-61 mandates the Judge to be full time and shall not be employed outside
the Court. Prior to the conversion I was given a Long's survey and my salary was
established at $40,000. It was my understanding this would be the salary for the
remainder of the term of office, ending December 2001.
On December 11, 2000 I attended a council workshop to discuss the salary adjustment.
The attending council members indicated they supported a salary of $48,000 with a
yearly cost of living adjustment.
RECOMMENDATION: Passage of salary ordinance and yearly salary adjustments.
