5. Recognition - Police Officer RetirementThe Kalispell Iuly23, 2001 Department City Manager, Chris Kukulski 312 la Avenue East Kalispell, MT 59901 Dear Chris, Effective August 31, 2001 Paul Hahn has elected to retire from the Kalispell Police Department. Paul has served the city and the department for over 24 years and is leaving to pursue other personal interests and to spend more time with his family. Paul has seen the city and the department change considerably since he was hired in 1977. As a matter of contrast it is interesting to note that the department did not have any computers or portable radios when he started. The city still had some call lights that hung over streets that were turned on so that officers knew to call the police station to receive information on police calls. Now the department is completely computerized with mobile data terminals in the cars and every officer relies on their portable radio or cell phone to keep in contact with our dispatch center. Paul Hahn spent 15 years in the patrol division before being promoted to Sergeant in 1992. He was then promoted to Patrol Lieutenant in 1993 and has served the department in that role since that time. We will miss Paul's intellect and his extensive knowledge of training techniques. Paul has spent much of his time improving our training standards and raising the professionalism of our department. I can remember more than one situation over the years where Paul literally risked his life to protect this city. He has invested a considerable portion of his life to improving the health safety and welfare of this community. I am very proud to have served with Lieutenant Hahn and I want to congratulate him for his service to City of Kalispell and I wish him well in his retirement. Sincerely, Frank Garner Chief of Police QO Frank Garner, Chief of Police • Jim Brown, Asst. Chief of Police • KPD phone (406) 758-7780, FAX (406) 758-7799 300 lstAve. East, Kalispell, MT 59901
