REPORT:
Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Frank Gamer, Chief of Police
SUBJECT: Web Page Project Acknowledgement
MEETING DATE: March 4, 2002
Department
BACKGROUND: In 2001 the Police Advisory Council (PAC), a citizens volunteer group, committed
themselves to finding ways to reduce the impacts of methamphetarnme in our community. The PAC organized a
town hall meeting on meth, they conducted a seminar at Flathead High School on treatment, education and
enforcement issues related to meth, and they agreed to develop a web site designed to provide information to parents
and teens about the ravages of meth.
The web site was designed to provide information on what the drug looks like, what the signs and symptoms are, the
costs to the community, how to get help, personal experiences, how to detect a lab and an on-line form for reporting
illegal drug activity.
Tonight we are proud to announce the inauguration of wcvw.kalisoell.com/s[onmeth. a web site produced by
community volunteers in an effort to provide members of the community with some of the tools they need to reduce
the prevalence of meth in their lives. The site can also be accessed through the police department web site at
kpd'a,kaliscell.com.
This project represents the work of several volunteers from our community. The entire PAC, project director Chris
Degenhardt and web site designer Eve Dixon, through her company Hourglass Design, deserve our appreciation for
serving their community in this way. It is significant to note that there was no cost to the city for this project. All of
the necessary elements of this project were donated by these volunteers.
In recognition of their efforts the police department will be presenting Chris Degenbardt and Eve Dixon the
department's Citizenship Award Eve Dixon will give a demonstration to the council on the site.
RECOMMENDATIONS: The City Council should acknowledge the inauguration of this web site and recognize
these volunteers for their service to the community.
FISCAL EFFECTS: None
ALTERNATIVES: As recommended by Council.
Respectfully submitted,
F c Gamer
