Resolution 4728 - Budget Resolution - Storm SewerCity of Kalispell Post Office Box 1997 - Kalispell, Montana 59903-1997 -Telephone (406)758-7700 Fax(406)758-7758 REPORT TO: Mayor Kennedy and City Council Members FROM: Amy Robertson, Finance Director Chris Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: Storm Sewer Maintenance assessments MEETING DATE: July 15, 2002 BACKGROUND: The resolution is adopted annually to provide a levy to fund the cost of storm sewer maintenance. The assessments are per square foot of property in the City at rates determined by the type and use of property. The City Council recently adopted Ordinance 1421 establishing the parameters for assessing property. This resolution is the annual budget resolution setting the rates. Rates were put in the Ordinance and are the same in the resolution. RECOMMENDATION: Adoption of Resolution 4728 establishing the assessments. FISCAL EFFECTS: The City anticipates receiving $268,235 in revenue to be used for the costs associated with the Storm Sewer Fund. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by Council. Amy H. Robertson Chris A. Kukulski Finance Director City Manager Report compiled: July 10, 2002 RESOLUTION NO. 4728 A RESOLUTION LEVYING ASSESSMENTS FOR THE COST OF STORM SEWER MAINTENANCE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2002-2003. WHEREAS, the assessment cost of the Storm Sewer Maintenance District for the fiscal year 2002-2003 is estimated to be $268,235.00, and WHEREAS, at a public hearing held on the 1st day of July, 2002, the City Council did consider all objections made to said estimate and to the basis of levy and assessment for payment for said cost. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KALISPELL, MONTANA: SECTION I. That a tax be levied for the assessment cost, of $268,235.00 be in the amounts set opposite the description of each lot or parcel of land, as shown by the special assessment lists on file in the office of the City Finance Director. SECTION II. The amount of said tax shall be levied proportionately on an area basis in an amount per square foot of lot or parcel of land within the district except public streets or rights of way. Category 1 $.0015 Category 2 $.0029 Category 3 $.0052 Category 4 $.0065 Maximum charges for category 1 and category 2 are per Ordinance 1421. In category 1, vacant land over two acres has a maximum charge of $130.68. In category 2, residential land over % acre has a maximum charge of $63.16.
