Sergeant Promotion
MEETING DATE: January 22, 2002
BACKGROUND: On January 1, 2002 Wade Rademacher was promoted to Sergeant
of Patrol. Wade has worked for the last two years as a School Resource Officer and in
doing so demonstrated an ability to work hard, develop partnerships, promote a positive
image and exhibit leadership. Though no council action is necessary for the promotion
we would like to give the council the opportunity to recognize officers that have achieved
promotional status.
RECOMMENDATIONS: The Council should recognize Sergeant Rademacher for
obtaining the rank of sergeant under the consent agenda.
FISCAL EFFECTS: None.
ALTERNATIVES: As recommend by Council.

I am pleased to inform you that effective January 1, 2001 you are hereby promoted to the
rank of Sergeant of Patrol for the Kalispell Police Department. The standard one year
probationary period will apply. I am looking forward to working with you as our newest first -line
supervisor.
Your excellent work with the School Resource Officer program and your demonstrated
ability to work hard, develop partnerships, promote a positive image and exhibit leadership were
key elements in your selection as a supervisor. I know you will demonstrate those same key
leadership traits in motivating, evaluating, advising and training your team.
I know you recognize that your leadership will be the key catalyst in the success of your
team Your success will depend on your ability to promote the success of those people assigned
to your shift. Your ability to guide them legally, morally, ethically, and productively will be
crucial in their success and the success of this department in providing for the people we serve.
It will be your responsibility to promote a positive work environment, teamwork and
professionalism, while instilling and reinforcing ethical standards with your officers. You will
be -the standard by which your officers will measure themselves. I know you will lead by
example and hold those you supervise by those same high standards.
We are very fortunate to have officers of your quality on our staff. I am proud to call you
part of our team and to bestow on you the responsibility and privilege of this leadership role in
our department. Congratulations Sergeant Rademacher on your promotion.
