That designation resulted in an annual award of nearly $200,000.00 (two hundred thousand dollars) to the task force for expenses related to investigating drug trafficking. Although grant funds cannot be used for new officer base salaries some of the funds can be used for overtime. In the past the department has budgeted $10,000.00 for drug related overtime. Our HIDTA program will devote approximately $9,600.00 towards overtime related to drug investigations for the Kalispell Police Department. General fund monies in our budget, previously designated towards drug related overtime can be used to accommodate other needs. In accepting this award there will be no reporting requirements and no match money is required. RECOMMENDATIONS: The department recommends the Council accept grant money from the HIDTA project designated for drug interdiction overtime. FISCAL EFFECTS: As described. WHEREAS, the Federal Government has designated Flathead County and Kalispell as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area and has awarded the Northwest Drug Task Force nearly Two Hundred Thousand Dollars ($200,000) for expenses relating to drug investigations, and WHEREAS, Nine Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($9,600) will be used for Drug Interdiction Overtime, and WHEREAS, the HIDTA grant requires no matching funds, and WHEREAS, Nine Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($9,600), would be used for overtime reimbursement relating to drug investigations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KALISPELL, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. That the City Council hereby accepts the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area funds in the amount of Nine Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($9,600) from the Federal Government.
