Dear Chris,
Effective August 31, 2002 Assistant Chief of Police Jim Brown has elected to
retire from the Kalispell Police Department after 27 years of service to our community.
Jim started as a patrol officer in February of 1975. He went on to work as a patrol
sergeant, a detective and the Detective Lieutenant before becoming Assistant Chief of
Police in 1998. Assistant Chief Brown was awarded the Distinguished Service for his
efforts in saving a drowning child and he has letters of appreciation and commendation
too numerous to mention.
Jim was selected as Assistant Chief of Police because of his inherent leadership
ability, his experience, his superior prior performance, his initiative, versatility, judgment
and character. For the past several years Jim has been my confidant, advisor, partner,
mentor and friend. I have explicitly trusted his decisions, advice and ethics. Most
importantly for me Jim was never afraid to challenge my conclusions and he never failed
to support my decisions.
Assistant Chief of Police Jim Brown has been an incredible employee and an
asset to the community. We have been made richer from his fellowship and we will
continue to benefit for years to come from his legacy.
Jim Brown is one of the finest officers I have ever served with. I want to thank
him for 27 superb years with the city and I wish him and his family the best of luck in his
retirement.
Sincerely,
JI
