Kennedy and Kalispell City Council FROM: Charles Harba7l, City Attorney Chris Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: Parking Restrictions on Sunset Blvd. Tel 406.758.7708 Fax 406.758.7771 charball@kalispell.com BACKGROUND: On September 20, 1999 Council passed a resolution declaring its intent to prohibit parking on either side of Sunset Boulevard between Idaho Street and Arizona Street. This resolution was passed at the request of MDOT in anticipation of the improvement that was recently made to that street. The parking restriction allows for the creation of left turn bays on Main Street/Sunset Boulevard, thereby increasing safety. The project has now been completed with the left turn bays incorporated into the roadway design. At the May 5' Regular Meeting the Council passed Ordinance 1454 on first reading. RECOMMENDATION: Pass Ordinance No. 1454 which amends the existing parking ordinance. FISCAL EFFECTS: None Respectfully submitted, Charles Harball/tity Attorney Chris Kukulski, City Manager ORDINANCE NO. 1454 AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING PARKING ON MAIN STREET/SUNSET BOULEVARD BETWEEN IDAHO STREET AND ARIZONA STREET AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KALISPELL, MONTANA, AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I Pursuant to Resolution 4510, dated September 20, 1999, in which the City of Kalispell, in conjunction with its agreement with the Montana Department of Transportation, declared its intent to prohibit parking on certain areas of the City's streets to allow for the construction of left turn bays, the parking prohibition set forth in Chapter 17, Section 17-54, Paragraph J, of the Kalispell City Code shall be and is hereby amended to read, "On either side of Main Street/Sunset Boulevard between Idaho Street and Arizona Street, at any time." SECTION 2 This Ordinance shall be effective thirty (30) days from and after the date of its final passage and approval.
