BACKGROUND: On September 20, 1999 Council passed a resolution declaring
its intent to prohibit parking on either side of Sunset Boulevard between Idaho Street and
Arizona Street. This resolution was passed at the request of MDOT in anticipation of the
improvement that was recently made to that street. The parking restriction allows for the
creation of left turn bays on Main Street/Sunset Boulevard, thereby increasing safety. The
project has now been completed with the left turn bays incorporated into the roadway
design. At the May 5' Regular Meeting the Council passed Ordinance 1454 on first
reading.
RECOMMENDATION: Pass Ordinance No. 1454 which amends the existing parking
ordinance.
FISCAL EFFECTS: None
