REPORT TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: dames C. Hansz, P.E., Director of Public Works
SUBJECT. Award Bid — Meter Reader Pick-up Truck
MEETING DATE: November IS, 2004
BACKGROUND: The current Water budget includes funds for the purchase of a new small pick-up
truck for the water meter reader. Three quotes were solicited from local dealers. In addition, the State
motor pool bid was obtained for the same vehicle. A comparison of all four bid prices is attached and
shows the State bid, submitted by Ken Tyler Chevrolet in Missoula, to be $35.50 less than the next low
bid froth Eisinger Motors of Kalispell. Normally, staff would recommend acceptance of the low bid.
However, in this case we do not recommend low bid. We believe the small cost difference is partially
offset by the ability to deal locally on questions of warranty and service not performed by City personnel.
Therefore, staff recommends award of the bid for the meter reader pick-up truck to Eisinger
Chevrolet of Kalispell.
RECOMMENDATION: Award bid to supply a small pick-up truck to Eisinger Chevrolet of Kalispell
based on the bid of $15,629.50. This is $3,370.50 less than the amount budgeted for this vehicle.
ACTION REQUESTED: AT CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF NOVEMBER 15 MOTION TO
AWARD BID FOR A SMALL PICKUP TRUCK TO EISINGER CIIEVROLET OF KALISPELL.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Initial expenditure of budgeted funds totaling $15,629.50
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Council
Respectfully submitted,
Hansz, P.E.
Director of Public Works / City gineer

Re: Bids for Extended Cab 4x4 Small Pickup
XNV,
Included in the 2004/05 water fund budget is an appropriation of $19,000 to
purchase a pickup for the meter reader. Bids were received from three local
dealerships and Rhonda. Grandy provided the State's bid prices. Below please find
a summary of those bids:
State Bid / Karl Tyler Chevrolet $15,594.00
Missoula, MT
Eisinger Motors $15,629.50
Kalispell, MT
Don K Chevrolet $15,879.00
Whitefish, MT
Scarff Auto Center $17,889.00
Kalispell, MT
The State's bid price is $35.50 less than Eisinger Motors, because of the small
difference in price it is my recommendation that the bid be awarded to Eisinger
Motors, the local dealership.
