OLISPELL CITY CLERK
I would like to express my interest in a position on either the City Planning Board and/or
the Conrad Mansion Museum Board. Given my desire to give back to the community as
well as mv educational background, I believe I would be a strong contributor to
Katispelt's current and future well-being. My position on Kalispell's Street Tree
Commission has been rewarding and has further ingrained my belief in the value created
through professional, civic leadership.
Currently, I work as a senior financial analyst for Hewlett-Packard. I provide consulting
services to HP with regards to quality improvement. Past responsibilities at HP include
planning and reporting for all income statement line items, new business development for
the mobile printing market, and partnership support for several key HP third -party
developers.
am a Montana native and graduated from Frenchtown High School. I received my B.A.
in accounting and finance at Carroll College and completed my graduate work at
Colorado State University. As I have lived in other cities and states, I understand how
special Kalispell and Montana are and would like the opportunity to volunteer my time
and skills to assure Kalispell remains a great place to live,
if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
John Michael Knopik

Dear Mayor Kennedy,
My name is Kevin Mikelson and I am sending this letter to express interest in
serving out the remainder of Sue Ellyn Anderson's term on the City Planning
Board, as was recently announced in the Daily Interlake.
I was raised in Kalispell and graduated from FHS in 1990 and the University of
Montana in 1994. After spending a year teaching English at the University of
Heidelberg in Germany, I returned to Kalispell and began a career at Semitool.
In 1997 1 transferred to Semitool's office in San Jose, CA for one year and then
to their office in Portland, OR for 2 years. I then worked for another company in
the semiconductor industry for 3 '/2 years, living in Seattle. My wife and I
returned to Kalispell in September 2003, where I am again working for Semitool
in Product Marketing/Management, and my wife has started a small business.
My wife and I sacrificed a lot to move back to Kalispell, but we truly believe this is
one of the best places to raise a family. Kalispell certainly is a different place
compared to when I was growing up here, but I believe that the growth we are
experiencing will benefit all of us in the long-term, provided it is managed in a
responsible manner. I have seen the effects of poor planning in the places that I
lived in California, Oregon and Washington and would strive to help Kalispell
avoid some of those same missteps,
I appreciate your time and consideration on this matter. If you have any
questions for me, I can be reached in the evenings at 257-2218, or during the
daytime at 752-2107, xt 7550.
Thank you for your consideration,

This letter is to express my interest in the opening on the Kalispell Planning Board.
I am a resident and small business owner here in Kalispell.. In my work as an
architect for the past ten years, have seen up -close the growth that our community
is experiencing. The essence of an architect's work is the thoughtful balancing of
diverse and sometimes opposing values within a built project. I would like to bring
that experience to bear on our community's growth.
I understand the economic value of long-term planning, both in the tangible costs of
utilities, roads and infrastructure and the intangible costs of aesthetics, quality of
life, and ease of movement. I know that no amount of planning can ever achieve
complete satisfaction on all counts, but that good planning is the only way to strike
the most appropriate balance for all involved. I would like to help guide Kalispell's
inevitable growth in a way that balances those competing needs while reflecting our
community's values.
I thank you for your consideration. If your have any questions, please feel free to
contact me at my office number, 752-5378.
Respectfully yours,
i
