Hansz, P.E., Director of Public Works SUBJECT: Award Bid — Water Meters MEETING DATE: April 5, 2004 BACKGROUND: Last year the Water Division began a three year project to replace the City's old and inaccurate residential water meters with a new style of highly accurate and long-lived meter of modern design. Phase II of this project to improve residential metering accuracy is included in the 2003/2004 budget with an appropriation of $385,000 for these materials. In addition, the water fund budget includes funds for new meters required for new development. The 2003/04 budget includes $40,000 for these additional meters. Bids were solicited and one was received from Metron - Farnier by the March 17 deadline. RECOMMENDATION: Award bid for residential water meters to Metron — Farnier based on a low bid of $360,290.00.This is approximately $64,710.00 less than the amount budgeted for these materials. ACTION REQUESTED: AT CITY COUNCIL MEETING OFAPRIL 5 — MOTION TO AWARD BID FOR RESIDENTIAL WATER METERS TO METRON — FARIVIER OF BOULDER, CO. Specifications were designed for a single jet potable water meter that meets our low flow expectations. 4n March 17, 2004 one bid was received from. Metron —Farrier headquartered in Boulder, Colorado. The total bid price amounted to $360,290. 1 recommend that Metron-Farnier be awarded the bid to supply the City of Kalispell with single jet water meters.
