SUBJECT: Nurturing Center Grant
MEETING DATE: October 17, 2005
BACKGROUND: The Nurturing Center was awarded a Department of Justice Grant
from the Office on Violence Against Women. The amount of the grant is $289,798. It is a pass
thru grant with the City as the Sponsor. With fanding from the Safe Havens: Supervised
Visitation and Safe Exchange Grant Program, the City of Kalispell, in collaboration with the
N rtufing Center, the Community Domestic Violence Agency, and Flathead County Courts, will
use this initial implementation grant to expand its existing supervised visitation and exchange
services in Flathead County.
Key project activities include: l) identi�ng and leasing a larger facility to provide supervised
visitation and exchange services; 2) recruiting, hiring, and training visitation monitors, 3
creating and disseminating organizational brochures describing the services offered; providing
training to later enforcement, court personnel, and attorneys on the dynamics of domestic
violence; and 5 forming a Consulting Committee that will meet monthly and assist in the future
planning and sstainahility of the visitation center.
RECOMMENDATION: Accept grant and authorize budget authority as part of the consent
agenda. Budget hearing not needed for grant acceptance.
