Subject: Citizen Advisor} Council -Community Venter
Fear Mayor Kennedy,
The Flathead Youth Foundation is keenly interested in keeping abreast of any developments that may impact our
local youth and have greatly appreciated Police Chief, Frank Garner and Parks and R " Director, Mike Baker, who
have both taken the time to attend our meetings and keep us informed on the potentiality of a community center
incorpmeating a focal point for Teens. Having learned from Mike of the formation of the Citizen Advisory Council,
the Foundation Trustees, unanimously passed. motion support request for my appointment the proposed
council. This letter serves as our written request for your consideration of my appointrrent. My background and
experience is primarily in Social Service and Education with focus on long rcange organizational planning, grant
writing, fundraising, family support services, establishing 5C)(3) nont profit organizations, public & media
,relat"ions in l i successful m tax campaigns), accredi tatian services, pr.ogra rn and budget
development -implementation, etc.
Having long carried a sense of urgency for the teens of Ka Iis 'I I was especially discover you shared
similar concern. It's undeniable that this sector is s important and vital s any in K s l .,.,yet comperedto
other "groups"' they're grossly underserved, not only by our municipa-lity but. by the community at large including
not -for profits, private sector, etc, To that end, I applaud you and the City Council for taking the first steps
toward providing all Kalispell residents with a much -deserved community center. Programs and is for
teens benefit an entire community with Positive and even measurable results.
With careful planning and collaboration between various entities Kalispell could. host a community center that
rises to the challenge of successful programming that not only includes, but champions our Teens by letting
them know we value thern. T here is consistent enthusiasm and support for teen programming from all sectors
in our community not to mentJon that Kalispell has a w'h of generous and talented residents waiting & willing
to support such endeavors.
n behalf of the Flathead Youth Foundation and myself, I thank you in advance for your C-areful consideration of
our request for my appointment to the Citizen Advisory Council for the Community Center. I hope you'll find my
interest and experience to be a benefit to the overall Community Center planning process as well as to any
objectives related to our fantastic Kalispell Teens'.
Respectfully yours,
Rebec "goose JOS

Dear Mayor and City Council:
I am meting this letter to express nay interest in joining the Community Recreation Center
Advisory Committee.
I any married and a parent of two small children., Naomi, age 4Y2 and Sear, age 112. 1 am
employed as a Registered Sales & Marketing .Assistant at Investment Centers of America as
well as owning nay own small business, D. McClenahan Activities, ITC which offers Stroller
StrYd.esTm to the .flathead Valley. (Stroller StridesTm is a stroller fitness program for moms as
well as pregnant oxen.) I am also a student at FVCC and will complete the AA.S..-
Business Administration degree in May 2006.
My interest in having a community recreation center is for loth personal and business
Doses. A community recreation center is often the center of activities within a community.
In Kalispell there are several organizations that offer activities and events to all ages.
However these activities are spread throughout the area creating a problem in communicating
to the public that the activities are available. This forces the organization to spend money on
costly advertising that can be ineffective. A community recreation center could be a solution
because it could not only be the location for such activities but also the hub of communicating
the various activities to the public i.e. web site w ea .endar of events, newsletter, etc).
As a parent, I feel that a community recreation center would provide an array of possibilities
as far as activities foir small children through teenagers. As the operator of Stroller Strides, it
could be a. location for 1 ndoor cl asses, a. meeting area. for Mom "s Nig&ht Oti t, the location vibe
playgroups for the children.. Ahe possibilities are wide open.
I hope to be included on this committee. I believe that my ideas, background and vision
would be valuable to the committee, the City of Kalispell and ultimately, our community.
Sincerely,
Danielle M. McClenahan

Dear Mayor .may,
-would like to serve as a youth member on the Community Recreation Center Advisory
Committee. Last year the Kalispell Youth Advisory Council reported to the City Council
the results of a youth recreation survey. The results clearly indicated that the youth of
our community believe it is important to havea facility and that such a facility would be
utilized by the youth.
t is imperative to have the voice of ruth in the playing process and I would appreciate
the opportunity to serve in that capacity.
'bad you.
Sincerely,
