7. Proclamation - National Cancer Survivor Day - June 5, 2005PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, a "cancer survivor" is defined as anyone living with a history of cancer, from the moment of diagnosis
through the remainder of life; and
WHEREAS, there are 9.8 million cancer survivors in America; and
WHEREAS, since over 1.3 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United States this year, increased access to
quality cancer care, screening, and prevention — especially among minorities and the medically underserved — must be a top
priority in our community; and
WHEREAS, the great State of Montana and the City of Kalispell has an active, productive cancer survivor population,
demonstrating that a cancer diagnosis is no longer an automatic death sentence; and
WHEREAS, communities throughout the United States, Canada, and other participating countrieswill be celebrating life
on Sunday, June 5, 2005 as part of the world's largest cancer survivor event; and
WHEREAS, on behalf of the people of Kalispell I salute all cancer survivors and those that support them;
NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Pamela B. Kennedy, Mayor of the City of Kalispell, Flathead County, Montana do hereby
proclaim .tune 5, 2005 as
NATIONAL CANCER SURVIVORS DAY
in the City of Kalispell and urge all citizens to join in this joyous celebration of life.
