REPORT TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: James C. Hansz, P.E., Director of Public Works
SUBJECT.- Ard Bid — 4 'on 4X4 Pick-up Trucks
MEET]ING DATE: December 5,2005
BACKGROUND: The current budget includes funds for the purchase of two ton 4X4 pick -op trucks.
One truck will replace a vehicle in the Sever Maintenance Division and one truck will be replaced in the
Water Maintenance Division. Bids were solicited from local area dealers and three responded. In addition,
the State motor pool bid was obtained for the same vehicle. A comparison of all bids is attached and
shows the State bid of $17,821.00, submitted by Bennett Motors in Great .falls to b $77.00 less, per
chie]e, than th e next low bid from Eisinger Motors of Kal ispel1.
In most eases staff would recommend acceptance of the low bid. However, in view of the very
small difference In price, staff believes that dealing with the local business offers an advantage that
offsets the very minor cost difference.
RECOMMENDATION: Award bid to supply two 4.X4 pick-up trucks to.Eisinger Motors of Kalispell
based on their bid of $17,898.00.
AC TI ON RE QUESTE : A T CITY CO UNCILMEETING OF DECEMBERMOTION TO

The Public Works Department currently has in its budget $50,000 for two /4 tors 4x4
pickups. one vehicle is for our sewer Division and one is for our Water Meter
Division. fisted below is a summary of the quotes received.
1 state Bid: Bennett Motors of Great Falls — 2006 GMC Sierra $17,821.00
2 S arff Buick Pontiac GMC of Kalispell — 2006 GMC sierra $18,142.93
3) Eisinger Motors of Kalispell — 2006 Chevrolet si r ra o $17,898.00
4 Don K — No response
My recommendation is to purchase the two Chevrolet Sil ra /4 Ton 4A pickups
from Eising r Motors at $17,898.00 each, This would be a cost of $77.00 each
above the state bid or a total of $154.00 ove r the state bid for both vehicles.
