Employee Recognition - Fire Chief Randy Brodehls f City of Kalispell Post Office Box 1997 - Kalispell, Montana 59903-1997 -Telephone (406) 758-7000 Fax - (406) 758-7758 REPORT TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: James H. Patrick, City Manager SUBJECT: Executive Fire Officer Certificate Presentation DATE: April 14, 2005 I received notification that Kalispell Fire Chief Randy Brodehl completed all of the curriculum and research requirements of the U.S. Fire Administration's rational Fire Academy's "Executive Fire Officer Program." This is a testimony to his professional commitment to career development, organizational improvement, and the fire service in general. The intensive program is designed to provide senior fire officers with a broad perspective on various facets of fire administration, and with the expertise they need to succeed in today's challenging environment. There are four main courses each requiring a written applied research project to demonstrate application of course theory and concepts to real life situations within the student's own organization. Each project is evaluated through a formal process, and progression through the program was contingent on achieving each of these milestones. The required courses are: Executive Development (team development and consensus decision snaking to enhance organizational effectiveness); Leading Community Risk Reduction (identity risk and then mitigate the likelihood that these threats would result in deaths, injuries, and property loss); Executive Analysis of Fire Service Operations in Emergency Management (administration of incident response in light of the Federal Response Plan, the Integrated Emergency Management System, emergency operations center functions, planning, and documentation); and Executive Leadership (examines all aspects of executive level leadership and ties together the educational experiences of the three previous years). Six months after completion of each of the courses, the Program participants are required to complete an Applied Research Project to demonstrate application of course theory and concepts to real life situations within the participant's own organization. Chief Brodehl's accomplishments reflect credit upon himself, the Kalispell Fire Department and the City of Kalispell. His Certificate of Completion has been framed and will be presented Monday evening at the City Council meeting.
