The Mansard roof system proposed for the Southfield Towers building will not need a dry sprinkler system. The roof system will meet all the requirements of the Building Codes. ;iricerely, Fire Marshal City of Kalispell Post Office Box 1997 • Kalispell, Montana .,Telephone (406) 758-7700 • FAX (406) 758-7 »8" ' 99 Jn,4 21 Pal 4 17 RECEIVED City of Kalispell Building Department ATTN: Daryl Byle RE: Mansard on Southfield Tower Darryl, January 21, 1999 As we have discussed, we have contacted the City Fire Marshall in regards to the dry sprinkler system in and under the mansard of Southfield Tower. The issues are the sprinkling in the concealed spaces that the truss creates, and the 4' overhang. In conversations with them, we have explained that the roofing is concrete slate, and there will be no sources of ignition in the mansard (i.e. electrical). We have also brought out the point that the mansard is basically non-structural (excluding the eave) and the roof under it is sprinkled and will stand without the mansard attached. We have also discussed the eave is 4' to the end of framing of the truss on the building, plus the fascia and finish. With this it will be over 4'. The clock tower overhang does exceed 4' by 8"+/-. Attached is their response. Please review with your department and provide us with comments and/or clearance. We would encourage your to contact Mr. Seddon to assure that no miscommunication occurs. The building of the mansard trusses is awaiting your response, so any help in expediting the manner would be appreciated. If you have any questions, please call.
