SUBJECT: Ladder truck bid acceptance recommendation
COUNCIL MEETING DATE: October 16, 2007
BACKGROUND: The Kalispell Fire Department has received one bid for a new ladder
truck and its equipment. Big Sky Fire Equipment, in Lewistown, MT, bid $687,987.00. The
department has diligently compared the design specifications to the proposal and finds that
the design specifications are acceptable and within budget. Appendix A is attached, and is
a breakdown of the expenditures. The build time for this piece of apparatus is
approximately 369 days.
FISCAL IMPACT: The bid prig for the ladder truck is 687,987.09, which is within the
approved 2007/2008 budget of $695,000. Of this amount, $567,987.00 will be amortized
over the next ten years, and the remaining $120,000 is budgeted from the impact fee fund.
The current annual interest rate offered by the Montana Board of Investments is 4.85%.
Appendix B is an amortization schedule at this rate. If Council chooses to approve this
purchase, the Finance Department will use the Montana Board of Investments, unless they
are able to find a more competitive rate.
RECOMMENDATION : Council accepts the bid for a new ladder truck from Big Sky Fire
Equipment for $687,987.00.
