SUBJECT: Resolution 5172 — Intent to Support the Establishment of
an Interlocal E911 Dispatch Center
MEETING DATE: Tuesday, January loth, 2007 — Regular Meeting
BACKGROUND: The City of Kalispell, Flathead County, its rural fire
departments and emergency services and each of the other cities in Flathead
County, as well as many other emergency response agencies, all require emergency
dispatch services. Currently within Flathead County there are separate dispatch
operations serving the county, its agencies and the three cities. As staff has
discussed with the Council in past work sessions, this has proved to be inefficient
and counterproductive to the cooperative use of emergency services. Recently the
managers of the various local governments and agencies have been discussing the
bases for an agreement to combine services for a central dispatch center
administered by a central administrative body composed of representatives of public
agencies for the purpose of administering and setting the policies for such a staff as
well as to coordinate its work in light of the priority of need and for the sharing of
costs.
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council pass Resolution 5172 to formally state
its intent to support the establishment of an interlocal E911 dispatch center and to
direct the City Manager to continue the negotiations.
FISCAL EFFECTS: None at this time.
Respectfully bmitted,
Charl ar all, City Attorney mes H. Patrick, City Manager

emergency response agencies, all require emergency dispatch services; and
WHEREAS, currently within Flathead County there are separate dispatch operations within the

2007, between the various public agencies to establish a central administrative body
