SUBJECT: Authorization to Prepare a CDBG Economic Development
Grant Application and Call a Public Hearing
MEETING- DATE: March 17, 2008
BACKGROUND: Flathead Community College has requested the
department's assistance to apply for a workforce training grant from the Community
Development Block Grant Program. The program funds would assist FVCC in acquiring
new pieces of Computer Numerical Control equipment. The equipment would be targeted
for the metalworking and machining trades. An aggregate of local businesses have
expressed the need for such training.
The CDBG application must be submitted as soon as possible for the program funds for
the Economic Development funding is first -come first -serve basis. The deadline for
application is April 15th. The department anticipates the request from FVCC is
approximately $100,000.
RECOMMENDATION: City Council authorize the Community Development staff
to prepare a CDBG grant application and set the date of April 7, 2008 for a public hearing
on the submission of the application.
FISCAL IMPACT: The Community Development Department will be able to
receive up to $5,000 to cover the administration of the grant.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by Council.

RESOLUTION NO. 5271
A RESOLUTION OF INTENT TO AUTHORIZE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT
APPLICATION TO THE MONTANA CDBG PUBLIC FACILITIES PROGRAM AND
SETTING A DATE FOR A PUBLIC HEARING,
WHEREAS, the City of Kalispell is applying to the Montana Department of Commerce for a
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to assist Flathead Community
College in obtaining partial funding to purchase pieces of Computer Numerical
Control equipment for the metalworking and machining trades.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
KALISPELL, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. That the City of Kalispell agrees to conform to the regulations,
statutes, terms and conditions for the Application.
SECTION II. That James H. Patrick, City Manager, is authorized and directed to
submit this Application to the Montana Department of Commerce on
behalf of the City of Kalispell, and to provide such additional
information as may be required.
SECTION III. A public hearing is hereby scheduled for April 7, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in
the City Council Chambers at City Hall, Kalispell, Montana for the
purpose of taking public comment on the application.
