RE : Red Ribbon Week
Dear Mayor,
FRANK GARNER
Chief of Police
JIM BROWN
Asst. Chief
In my capacity as a board member for the C.A.R.E. organization I am
requesting you issue a proclamation to declare October 22 - 30, 1998 "Red Ribbon
Week". A copy of last years proclamation is attached.
As you know, the C.A.R.E. organization is a local group that works at
establishing drug free alternatives for area youth. Our group is active in Teen Camp,
students taking a new direction (S.T.A.N.D.), drug education, mentoring programs,
numerous events and of course "Red Ribbon Week". This year "Red Ribbon Week"
is also a celebration of C.A.R.E.'s 15"' anniversary! Throughout the week citizens
will display "Red Ribbons" to show their commitment to the program. Large "Red
Ribbons" will again be placed on light poles in the downtown area as a more visible
symbol of the communities commitment to drug prevention.
Attached is a copy of the weeks events to include a fun run with Governor
Marc Racicot from the Summit to the High School and a kick-off celebration at
Cavanaugh's on Saturday October 24t' to include a live radio remote and ribbon
cutting. Each year participation in and recognition of "Red Ribbon Week" increases
as the citizens of our community join to voice their indignation over the scourge of
drugs in our society. "Red Ribbon Week" is a celebration for all of us who have
pledged to curb the influence drugs have in some people's lives.

I appreciate your support in this effort and we hope to see you at some of the
events during the week. I have included "Red Ribbons" for you to wear during the
week to show your commitment to keeping our community drug -free.
Respectfully Sub ' ted,
F Garner
