RE: Flu Shots
We are offering City employees free flu shots. The County will provide us with vouchers and
direct bill us for shots for City employees at $10.00 each. I believe the benefits of the shots
far outweighs the cost to the City health plan for all of the doctors visits and costs of
medications for sick employees. And then there is missed work - when the flu hits my office
they all go. We will pay the cost directly from the Self Insured Health Fund. Both the County
and the City of Columbia Falls provide this benefit to their employees. I think its particulary
important for employees who interact with the public. Shots will be available the next three
Wednesdays from Sam to 6pm. Of course this is available to Council, so please see me or
Marti for your voucher and stay healthy.

Dear Community Sponsor:
This fall students from Flathead High School will have the opportunity to join students
from across the country on an exciting week-long learning adventure in Washington, DC. The
Program focus is "Washington and Gettysburg.' Students will spend a day in Gettysburg, PA, at
the historic site of the Battle of Gettysburg and Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. In viewing the
Civil War Battlefield they will not only get the chance to more deeply understand the Civil War,
but they will also have the opportunity to follow the effects of the Civil War into current day
Washington politics. This experience makes history and modern politics come to life for our
students.
As you may know, the Close Up Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan civic education
organization based in the Washington, DC area. As a part of the Close Up program, participants
will be able to question experts and hear the analyses of politicians, journalists, foreign
diplomats and scholars. In addition, Close Up provides an insider's view of monuments and
historic sites. Capitol Hill day allows students the opportunity to explore the inner workings of
Congress and to meet with Montana's Congressional delegation. Cultural experiences include an
evening at the theater and the opportunity to visit the many art galleries in Washington. It is a
week packed with educational opportunities and memories which will last a lifetime. Close Up
makes government and world affairs come to life long after the trip is over!
In order to make this trip possible for students who could otherwise riot afford to have
this experience, we will be engaged in a number of fundraising activities. The total cost of this
year's trip is $1400 for each student. We would ask that you consider making a donation to the
Close Up Foundation to help these young people experience democracy in action. Contributions
are tax-deductible under Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) and 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code
if you make your check payable to "Close Up Foundation_" The tax-deductible number of
the Close Up Foundation, for your records, is 2,3 71 2 2 8 8 2.
We would be happy to have students share their experiences with your organization or
employees and to speak either before or after their trip. Just let me know when you would like
to have them scheduled.
Please call me for any further information conceming the program. I can be reached at
Flathead High School (756-5075) during the day or at 862-6656 during evenings should you
have further questions.
We are excited w be able to make available to young people in our community the '
opportunity to understand our government and our freedoms in much greater depth. I know you
share our concern for the future of this country and for the active participation of citizens in
its survival. We hope that you can help to make this citizenship program available to students
through your contribution. 1 thank you for your interest and your support.
Sincerely
Sue Brown
