Boharski, Mayor City Council Members FROM: Mike Baker, Parks Director RE: June & July Activity Report DATE: July 29, 1998 f Parks & Recreation Highlights: • Bruckhauser Pool opened for the 1998 season; • Woodland Park received three new mini pavilions; • Lawrence Park is graced with a new playground structure from volunteer commitments; additional landscape and tree thinning completed as well. • Budget review before City Council; • "Pick-nic in the Park," concerts began; • Planted Woodland Park Gardens & downtown planters; • Fifth Annual Ice Cream Social; ISTEA: Preliminary consultant agreement submitted to MDT for Woodland Park DREAM Phase III. Design for Phase II North Main/Lawrence Park approved by MDT, Bridge Design underway (relocated site for river crossing). Construction plans & specifications 95% complete for Meridian Road Walkway; submitted plans to MDT. Work on right-of-way easements continue. Youth Athletic Complex: Contract awarded to LHC, Inc. Construction started. Major pod seeded; road work began. Total project sixty percent complete. Greenbriar Park: Park -in -Lieu development with automatic irrigation installed and meter pits completed. Turf seed has germinated. Organize homeowner tree planting. Boharski City Council Members July 29, 1998 Page 2 V Parks Department - Ken Bauska, Foreman: Maintenance Tasks: • lay bricks at Lawrence Park; repair Depot Park water fountain; remove old slide at Woodland Park; plumbing repair at Lawrence park, Lions Park, Soccer Fields, & Heritage & Northridge Park; cement pavilions Woodland Park; layout playground at Lawrence Park; mow and weedwhip Hockaday, Woodland, Lawrence, Ponderosa, Buffalo Hill, Lions, Daley; plant trees and landscape Lawrence Park; weedwhip and spray various sight obstructions, easements & vacant spaces; fill stumps at Lawrence Park & fertilize; landscape Lawrence Park; daily rest room cleaning and garbage removal. Seasonal Maintenance: • various irrigation repair; various pool maintenance and repair; paint picnic tables & benches; fence various athletic fields; paint Woodland and Lion rest room floors; dig out horseshoe pits; Urban Forestry - Michael Baker, Urban Forester: • prune low branches; pickup blow down material; • completed spring planting list. Recreation Depart. - C. Bohannan & J. Reese, Recreation Coordinators: • The Recreation Department is busy with the Summer season. June rainy' weather caused some low enrollment, but many were at capacity. July is busy with sports and outdoor programs; and winding up the inaugural season of Hoops Basketball League. The first Pick-nic in the Park was enjoyed by approximately 400 people. Seniors are busy hiking and rafting. Summer has started off great. • Frequent Monthly Duties: Vouchers, Marketing, Administrative work, answering phones, assisting participants, taking registrations.
