ACTIVITY REPORT
June 1998
ENGINEERING DIVISION
• Conducted pre -con meeting with F. D. Thomas for the WWTP digester/fermenter rehab project.
• Conducted an inspection of elevated and underground water tanks. Awaiting final report.
• Attended a MDT public meeting for safety project at Willow Glen and So. Woodland Drive.
• Continued support of City / County Master Plan update.
• Conducted a pre -con meeting for First Alley utility improvement project.
• Met with developer of FVCC site to review area lighting options.
• Continued support and participation in Kalispell Chamber TAC.
• Conducted engineering review of Southfield Park (Haven Field) storm drain design, identified
deficiencies and met with developer's engineer.
• Continued inspection of the Athletic Field Complex. Water mains and sewer force mains have
been installed and tested.
• Continued inspection of the Willows Subdivision, developer's progress is very slow.
• Completed one year inspection of the South Woodland Water Main Project.
• Completed overlays on Two -Mile Drive, Nevada Street and California Street.
• Completed final inspection of the Lantis Assisted Living Project.
• Completed the design of the 6th Street East Storm Drain Project. Ordering the pipe and manholes.
Work will be done in-house by Sewer Division.
• Completed small field survey for the Brendon House bike path.
• Completed Amended Subdivision Plat for Block 36, Kalispell Original. This included setting four
intersection monuments which will be beneficial for our mapping project.
• Completed surveying grades, small design and blue -topping for paving project at City Shops.
• Completed field survey for traffic light at 1 st Avenue East and 3rd Street East.
• Responded to numerous R/ W location requests.
• Studied several drainage problem areas and designed a storm drainage system for 1 st Alley, West
between 5th St. and 6th St.
• Attended three (3) Site Development Review Committee meetings.
• Reconstructed 6th Street East between 3rd/41h Streets. Pulverized the asphalt, installed new curb
on south side, repaired sidewalk approaches and re -paved.
OFFICE AND STAFF
• There were 8 emergency call -outs for the month of June: Water Division — 4 and Sewer
Division - 4.
CENTRAL GARAGE
• 101 repair orders were completed during the month of June:
• Police ............ 29 Streets............ 11

• Ongoing maintenance of City vehicles and machinery.
• Completed mounting summer tires on City vehicles.
• Installed new side engine on Parks Department mower.
• Attended Safety Meeting on 6/ 10/98.
SANITARY/STORM SEWER DIVISION
• Continued video inspection and cleaning of sewer lines Monday through Thursday.
• Performed weekly maintenance of fifteen lift stations each Friday.
• Repaired broken storm line at Th Alley EN and Oregon.
• Cleaned storm culverts for the State Highway Department on Idaho Street.
• Installed new storm catch basin in City yard.
• Attended Safety Meeting on June I oth.
• Repaired sewer service line at 115 Quincy Loop.
• Attended training classes for the Hansen T.V. Inspection Program during the week of 6/ 15/98
• Installed new sidewalks at 420 Liberty Street and 435 5th Avenue East.
SOLID WASTE DIVISION
• Delivered 13 containers to new customers.
• Repaired 7 containers and responded to 12 violations.
• Continued weekly garbage service.
• Continued weekly alley cleanup.
• New motor installed in the Sidearm #321.
• Attended Safety Meeting on 6/ 10/98.
• A new engine was installed in vehicle #321 putting it back in operation.
STREET DIVISION
• Continued alley grading and street sweeping.
• Chipped branches and ground stumps.
• Cleaned and prepped the City Yard for paving.
• Cleaned and painted City Shop Restrooms.
• Attended Safety Meeting held on 6/ 10/98.
• Assisted the Water Division.
• Removed curb and sidewalk at 61h Street East between 3rd and 4th Avenue.
• Maintained sweeping on chipseal projects.
WATER DIVISION
ATER PUMPING & STORA
• Placed under a boil water order by State DEQ for failed water tests. Immediately began
correcting the problem.
• Produced 81 M gallons of water: 21 M gallons upper zone and 60 M gallons lower zone.
• Continued routine maintenance on all pumps, motors, grounds, buildings, controls, testing and
record keeping.
• Lawrence Park Noffsinger Spring remains in off mode until further notice.
• City water storage tanks were inspected internally for general conditions — Inspection Report
coming.
• Grandview wells are pumping daily.
• Installed solenoid metering pumps at all well sites and began injecting sodium hydrochloride.
• Ben Van Dyke attended seminar in Bozeman on ultraviolet and ozone disinfecting process.
• Repaired water leak at the FVCC tennis courts.
• Repaired broken fence at the north side of water reservoir #2.
• Attended Safety Meeting on 6/ 10/98.
WATER CONSTRUCTION AND SYSTEM REFAIIL-
• Tagged 55 delinquent accounts.
• Delivered 4 water meters.
• Completed 85 work orders during the month of June.
• Repaired 1 fire hydrant and replaced 1 fire hydrant.
• Repaired valves — Citywide.
• Dug service line at Woodland Avenue (Logan House).
• New service line at 6th Avenue East & 4th Street East, 6th Street East between 3rd and 4th.
• Worked with Utility Service Association on leak detection.
• Repaired leaks on fire hydrants:
• 1046 6th Street West
• 467 East California
• 5th Avenue WN & Wyoming
• Attended Safety Meeting on 6/ 10/98.
• Repaired leak at the Woodland Park Pool.
• Assisted U.S.A. with leak detection.
• Located water main for tie in at Salish Court — 3 days.
• Repaired sinkhole at East Arizona.
• Dug 4" water main at 308 South Meridian.
• Dug water main at Salish Court.
• Repaired service line leak at 501 9th Avenue West.
• Replaced curb stops at 235 4th Avenue West.
• Assisted Parks Department at Lawrence Park with the new playground.
TRAFFIC SIGNS & SIGNALS DIVISION
• Continued maintenance of traffic signals, lights, signs, and meters.
• Signed and barricaded for the March for Jesus parade.
• Coned and coordinated for MDOT stripping of City streets.
• Completed traffic count at 5th Avenue West and I Ith Street West.
• Repaired loop area at Main and Center for street overlay.
• Attended Safety Meeting on 6/ 10/98.
• Fabricated and installed signs for the Parking Commission.
WASTEWATER TREATMENT DIVISION
• 74 Work Orders were completed during the month of June.
• 391 Lab Tests were performed during the month of June.
• 19 Loads of sludge were hauled during June.
• The average daily flow through the Plant in May was 2.079 million gallons; the peak daily flow
was 4.272 million gallons on May 27th following very heavy rain on May 26th.
• The Plant Manager, Joni Emrick, spoke at a Carpet Cleaners Meeting on "What can go down the
sewer and why."
