06. Resolution 4498 - GarbageREPORT TO: :Iu SUBJECT: MEETING DATE: "'IrpNOV7, Mayor Boharski and City Council Members Amy Robertson, Finance Director Chris Kukulski, City Manager Solid Waste assessments August 2, 1999 BACKGROUND: The resolution is adopted annually to provide a levy to fund the cost of removal of garbage or other offensive matter from streets, alleys or on any premises as a special tax against property from which such matter was deposited. Single family residential units are charged a fee of $70 per year. Commercial service in available also. RECOMMENDATION: Adoption of resolution setting the fees for garbage service. FISCAL EFFECTS: The City anticipates receiving $416,737 in revenue to be used for the costs associated with operating the solid waste program in the City. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by Council. WHEREAS, Section 7-14-4105 MCA, gives a City Council power to provide for levying the cost of removal of garbage or other offensive matter from streets, alleys, or any premises as a special tax against that property from which the same was deposited, the City Council deems such a method more equitable and just than paying for such removal from the General Fund of the City. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KALISPELL, MONTANA: SECTION I. The assessments for removal of garbage or other offensive matter for the year 1999-2000 are hereby estimated to be $416,737 and the City Council finds that - the cost of the removal of garbage and other offensive matter from the various lots and parcels of land within the city and benefitted by such removal is the amount as shown by the records maintained in City Hall. SECTION II. That the assessments charged are hereby established as follows: (a) $70.00 per average single family residential dwelling unit on one or more contiguous city lots per year; (b) Charges for all other garbage collection service shall be in accord with the schedule maintained in the office of the Director of Public Works.
