5. Award Bid - El Dorita Lift Station Improvement ProjectN
REPORT TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Jim Hansz, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: Liberty Street Lift Station
MEETING DATE: July 6, 1999
BACKGROUND: This project would replace sewage lift station #4 on Liberty Street. The project was
originally budgeted at $50,000.00 in the FY 1998/99 Sewer Operating budget. This amount is carried
forward to the current budget and an additional $15,000.00 is budgeted in the West Side TIF District
budget for the cost of an emergency generator: Four bids were received. All bids greatly exceeded the
project budget. The low bid was submitted by Sandon Construction at $101,304.00.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff does not recommend award of this work. All bids should be rejected.
Staff is reviewing the causes of the high bids and once these causes are known we will make a
recommendation to the City Council for the most appropriate course of action.
FISCAL EFFECTS: None at this time. Unless a mistake in specifications or design is uncovered, there
may be a need to increase the project budget to account for increased costs not anticipated at the time the
project was originally proposed.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Council
Respectfully
James C. Hansz, P.E.
