The Kalispell Fire Department responded to fourteen calls for the month. There was no
fire loss for the month. The calls are as follows:

month.

ENGINEERING DIVISION
• Initiated study with Robt. Peccia for downtown traffic impacts related to redevelopment proposal..
• Supported plan in hand review of US 93 South project.
• Met twice with representatives of Waterford Development regarding PUD proposal.
• Prepared extensive staff review comments on Waterford PUD draft submittal.
• Continued preparation of FY 99/00 budget for all divisions in department.
• Reviewed proposal for WWTP emergency power system changes related to Y2K.
• Met with Glacier Bank to review process for abandonment of alley, safety related issue involved.
• Met four times with City Service to resolve technical issues related to Westbrook Square.
• Supported Carbon Monoxide TAC meeting to review development of CO management plan.
• Reviewed enhancement easement for Westbrook Square public improvements.
• Conducted work session review of US 93 South utilities for City Council.
• Continued support of City Site Review Committee.
• Met with MDT and owners of Taco Johns and Hardees regarding proposal for alley abandonment.
• Continued preparation of TIF District sewer improvement project.
• Continued preparation of Chipseal / Overlay bid package. Bids are due on the 23`d of April.
• Continued preparation of First Ave. East and Third St. signal project.
• Continued preparation of TIF Sidewalk replacement phase III.
• Continued preparation of Fifth Ave. WN water improvement project.
• Continued preparation of Ninth St. W storm drain project.
• Continued preparation of Liberty St. lift station upgrade project.
• Continued preparation of annual sidewalk replacement bid package.
• Began review of applications for vacant Administrative Coordinator position.
• Supported City / County Joint Meeting, provided information regarding area CO issues.
• Completed one block of 8" PVC storm drain on 7`h Avenue East between 6`h Street East & 7`h Street
East.
• Removed old abandoned underground fuel tank from City right-of-way on 7`h Avenue East.
• Phase I of the Willows Subdivision has been completed.
• Kelly Road Lift Station is 95% completed. Generator was installed. Contractor needs to patch
asphalt back and install ditch along Kelly Road for final completion.
• Completed construction drawings for the City of Kalispell Sewer Improvements Project.
• Assigned address to the next phase of the Buffalo Commons Development.
• Met with MDOT and adjacent landowners to discuss the intersection of Main and Idaho and the
abandonment of V alley WN between Idaho and Montana Street.
• Plotted orthophoto/contour worksheet for the South Woodland area.
• Prepared digital contour file of Woodland Park area for the Parks Department.
• Continued development of utility line locations using as -built and record drawing information.
• Conducted field survey of utility locations for Buffalo Commons Subdivisions.
• Determined stilling basin/flood plain information for the Building Department.
• Responded to miscellaneous R/W and legal description inquiries.

• Continued regular maintenance of City vehicles and machinery.
• Repaired brakes, front end, and steering column on the PD school car.
• Installed cage and electric work on the new PD vehicle.
• Installed vibrator on the case 680 CKE Backhoe.
• Replaced PTO drive line on plow truck.
• Fabricated valve shut off tool for Sewer Division.
• Fabricated mounts and installed thatcher on new Parks Department mower.
SANITARY/STORM SEWER DIVISION
• Continued video and jet cleaning of sewer lines Monday through Thursday.
• Performed weekly maintenance of fifteen lift stations each Friday.
• Pumped Woodland Park holding tank.
• New lift station located at Kelly Road is on line.
• TV inspection of new sewer line at Kelly Road and Eagle Drive.
• Cleaned sewer main at 6`" Alley EN and Montana Street.
• Removed pump and motors from old lift station on Kelly Road and filled wet well with gravel.
SOLID WASTE DIVISION
• Delivered 23 containers to new customers.
• Repaired 6 containers and responded to 7 violations.
• Continued weekly garbage service.
• Continued weekly alley cleanup.
• Light pruning of trees in City alleys.
• The new Roto containers were delivered to the SW warehouse and are presently being
assembled.
PA
STREET DIVISION
• Continued sanding and deicing of alleys and streets.
• Cold mix patching of City streets ongoing.
• Assisted the Water Division.
• Prepped the City sander for storage.

• Leveled the surface of the WWTP emergency sludge disposal site on Cemetery Road.

• Removed tree at 1 Vh Street West between 5' and 6`h Avenue West.
• Assisted the Parks Division with building and assembly of bleachers for the Parks.
WATER DIVISION
WATER PUMPING & STORAGE:
• Produced 63 M gallons of water: 13 M gallons upper zone and 50 M gallons lower zone.
• Injected 200 gallons of 12% sodium hypochlorite.
• Continued routine maintenance on all pumps, motors, grounds, buildings, controls, testing and
record keeping.
• Completed quarterly testing of trihalomethane, volatile organic compounds, synthetic organic
compounds, inorganic compounds, nitrates, and nitrites for the State Water Quality Testing
requirements.
• Gathered and compiled data for the Consumer Confidence Report.
• Gathered and compiled data for the 1999-2000 Budget.
• Flushed hydrants on dead end mains.
• Painted interior piping at Lawrence Park.
• Repaired chlorine pump at the Grandview Well.
• Cleaned chlorine injection check valves at all pump stations.
WATER CONSTR UCTION AND SYSTEM REPAIR:
• Tagged 29 delinquent accounts on the east side of Kalispell.
• Delivered 25 water meters.
• Completed 85 work orders during the month of March.
• Replaced fire hydrants at 7`h Avenue West at 4"' Street West and 3' Street West, 6" Avenue
WN & RR, 6t" Avenue West & ls` Street, and Oh Avenue West & 2nd Street West.
• Removed old fire hydrants at 1128 4th Avenue East, 520 4"' Ave. East, and 424 4"' Ave. East.

WATER CONSTRUCTIONAND SYSTEMREPAIR continued...
• Repaired curb box at 1903 Darlington.
• Repaired main break at 70' Avenue WN and Nevada Street.
• Had to re -dig at 7" Avenue WN because of a leak.
• Removed old fire hydrant at 520 4`" Avenue East.
• Repaired fire hydrant at Heritage Place.
• Put in 6x3/4 tap at 560 2" d Avenue WN.
• Cleaned the Water Department shop.
• Replaced curb stop, box, and rod at 334 Hilltop.
• Completed backfilling at Lawrence Park.
• Completed a 6x3/4 tap at 1909 50' Avenue East.
• Repaired fire hydrant at Highway 93 and Utah.
• Dug and replaced 2" valve at Thompson Park.
• Completed an 8x2 tap at 49 3' Avenue EN and cut and capped 8" main.
• Cut and capped 12" main at 4" Avenue EN.
TRAFFIC SIGNS & SIGNALS DIVISION
• Regular maintenance of signals, signs, luminaries, barricades, sight obstructions, and Airport
lighting.
• Researched signalized intersection in Columbia Falls for MDOT update.
• Made and installed new sign for Lawrence Park.
• Replaced six faded 90-degree arrow signs.
• Replaced one missing Pedestrian Sign.
• Replaced one faded 3000 Stop Sign.
• Discussed paint contracting for City streets with MDOT. They will be contracting out their
striping. The City will also have to contract out for this service.
• Barricaded streets for the Parks Department for tree pruning.
• Signed and barricaded for the St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 17`".
• Setup traffic counters in the downtown area to collect data for Peccia traffic impact study.
• Conducting luminaire survey on City streets.
• Installed signal signs for MDOT at Hwy 93 and 13' Street.
• Made two signs for the Parks Department for the new ball fields.
• Marked sign and driveway locations for yellow curbing in the Downtown Tax Increment
District for the Peccia traffic impact study.
• Removed and replaced signs as needed.
DWASTEWATER TREATMENT DIVISION
• 173 Work orders were completed during the month of March.
• 458 Lab Tests were performed during the month of March.
• 29 Loads of sludge were hauled during March.
• 15,045 # of biosolids pressed during the month of March.
• There were no permit discharge violations in February. The total flow for February was 48.6
million gallons; the average daily flow was 1.7 million gallons.
