REPORT TO: Doug Russell, City Manager
FROM: Dave Dedman, Fire Chief
SUBJECT: Postpone Action on Bids — Hazardous Materials Pull Vehicle
MEETING DATE: January 22, 2013
BACKGROUND: The Kalispell Fire Department received a grant in the amount of $155,000 from
the Federal Emergency Man4gement Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security
(DHS) for the purchase of a heavy duty pull vehicle to transport the Hazardous Materials Team
personnel and equipment. The grant was accepted and approved by council on June 18, 2012.
Two responsive bids for the vehicle were received on January 10, 2013. Unfortunately, both bids
were higher than the grant award. The Kalispell Fire Department is working in coordination with
Montana State DES, FEMA, and DHS to find additional funding to complete the purchase.
RECOMMENDATION: Council postpone action on the bids to February 4.
