Kukulski, City Manager Confirmation of Police Officer Tim Falkner MEETING DATE: January 18, 2000 BACKGROUND: Officer Tim Falkner has successfully completed his one-year prbationary period and as a result needs to be confirmed by the City Council. Attached are letters of recommendation from Chief Garner and Sergeant Bourne, along with a short biography. Both Officer Falkner and Chief Garner will be present for Tuesday night's confirmation. RECOMMENDATION: The City Council approve Tim Falkner's confirmation. FISCAL EFFECTS: None. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by Council. Respectively submitted, Chris A. Officer Falkner has successfully completed his one-year probationary period as of January 12, 2000. I am extremely proud of Officer Falkner's professionalism, caring demeanor and work ethic. He always has a positive attitude and he is continually looking to improve himself and those around him. Tim is an exceptional team player with great interpersonal skills who is genuinely concerned for the citizens of our community. Tim has shown considerable initiative for an officer with his level of experience. He has investigated several complicated cases and brought them to a successful conclusion. Officer Falkner is an outstanding ambassador for the Kalispell Police Department, both on and off duty. His high ethical and moral standards and his infectious enthusiasm translate into creating a positive working environment. Tun was assigned to my shift when he completed Basic Academy and the departmental field training program. He has shown himself to be an efficient, dependable officer, and one I trust to do any job assigned. His skills and knowledge of the job and his jurisdiction are excellent and improve steadily with experience. Officer Falkner is well liked by the other officers and the public that he serves. As important, Officer Falkner is a quiet, conservative man who would make a good neighbor. Officer Falkner is welcome on my shift as long as he wishes to work there. Sgt. Dan Bourne) - 29 Years old, with wife And very new son (very low mileage) - Born and raised in Wisconsin. - Associate degree in Fire Protection Certified EMT - 2 years in National Guard; presently a Sergeant and the Management NCO for the transportation company. - Volunteer Fireman with West Valley Volunteer Fire Department. - Came to the Flathead with his wife to visit her parents near Bigfork, and was glad she wanted to live near them (his story). - Came to the Flathead and saw all the hunting and fishing possibilities, and wanted to live here (my story). - Tim was # 1 in his Academy Class!
