SUBJECT: Bids for 26 Yard Tandem Axle Garbage Truck
MEETING DATE: March 6, 2000
BACKGROUND: The current Solid Waste budget includes funding of $160,000.00 for a replacement
garbage truck. Two bids were received from Transport Equipment and one from Kois Brothers Equipment.
Both companies submitted bids for almost identical units from Heil, our current model of equipment.
Transport Equipment submitted a second bid for an alternate brand of equipment. After careful review of
the bid specifications, the alternate bid from Transport Equipment was rejected for failure to meet several
specifications. The remaining two units were essentially identical. Transport Equipment bid $155,700.00,
and Kois bid $147,794.00. We recommend acceptance of the bid from Kois Brothers in an amount of
$147,794.00. The Street Superintendent's evaluation is attached for information. The bid prices shown do
not include a radio that will be added after delivery at an approximate cost of $500.00.
RECOMMENDATION: Accept the bid of Kois Brothers Equipment bid to supply a 26-yard garbage
truck.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Expenditure of budgeted Solid Waste funds totaling $147,794.00. This is
$12,206.00 less than the amount budgeted. In addition, approximately $500.00 will be spent to equip the
unit with a radio. The total expenditure will be $148,294.00.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Council
