Goal for Kalispell Municipal Court for July 2000-June 30, 2001
March 11, 2000
BACKGROUND: Dedicated Courtroom —To this point the court has been able to schedule
around noncourt events, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to adjust
the courts calendar to oblige noncourt events. This is not to suggest that
these noncourt events/meetings are less important.
For a number of reasons, our demand for access to the courtroom has
increased considerably in the past 2-3 years. Due to increased jury and
nonjury trials, and hearings on Orders of Protection, the court requires
more seating space for all interested parties, including the public. Most of
the time, the conference room cannot accommodate the number of involved
parties. Also the setting up and taking down of the required recording
equipment is time consuming. Please keep this in mind when reviewing the
study done on the space needs for Kalispell City Hall.
RECOMMENDATION: Dedicated Courtroom.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Unknown.
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the City Council.
