SUBJECT: Award Bid, Annual Sidewalk and Curbing Construction Program
MEETING DATE: May 1, 2000
BACKGROUND: The FY 1999/2000 budget includes a line item for sidewalk replacement by
residents and businesses wishing to replace damaged walks, curbs and gutters. This will fund the
sidewalk and curbing construction program for the year ending June 30, 2001. Residents and
businesses may use this program to replace walks and to repay the cost via annual City
assessments over eight (8) years. The amount budgeted this year is $25,000.00. Unit price bids
were received on April 25'h from Sandon Construction and Pack & Company in the amounts
shown on the attached staff memorandum. Sandon Construction submitted the low bid in every
category of work.
RECOMMENDATION: We recommend award of the "Sidewalk and Curbing Construction for
the Year Ending June 30, 2001" contract to Sandon Construction based on their low bid
FISCAL EFFECTS: Potential expenditure of budgeted funds as indicated with construction cost
reimbursement by residents and businesses.

Bid Analysis and Recommendation
This contract is intended primarily for residents and businesses wishing to take advantage of the
annual sidewalk construction program. Bids were received from Sandon Construction and Pack
and Company. Both bids are in order and contained the required Bid Bond.

Based on the above bid prices the cost to construct a sidewalk adjacent to an average 50' wide lot
is $ 1600.00 with Pack and $ 947.50 with Sandon for a price differential of $ 652.50. I am
recommending the bid be awarded to Sandon Construction.
