SUBJECT: Award Bid, 2000 Street Overlay Project
MEETING DATE: May 1, 2000
BACKGROUND: The FY 1999/2000 budget includes appropriated funds in the Downtown
Urban Renewal District (TIF) and Gas Tax categories for chipseal and overlay pavement
preservation of City streets. The amounts budgeted included $259,791.00 carried over for prior
year work in progress and new funds totaling $356,317.00. The current year overlay project was
developed around these amounts. Overlay bids were received on April 25`h from A-1 Paving and
Pack & Company in the amounts of $144,125.00 and $166,000.00, respectively. Bid details are
shown on the attached staff memorandum. Actual costs to be paid for work performed will be
based on measured quantities in place. Therefore, final contract costs may differ slightly from
those shown above.
RECOMMENDATION: We recommend award of the 2000 Overlay contract to A-1 Paving
based on their low bid of $144,125.00.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Expenditure of budgeted funds as indicated. This expenditure in
conjunction with expenditures for chipseals will total an estimated $370,398.00. Adequate funds
are available because prior year final costs were less than anticipated.
