Kukulski, City Manager SUBJECT: Monthly Activity Report for June 2000 FROM: Dick Amerman, Assistant City Engineer DATE: July 5, 2000 Highlights of monthly activity for the operating divisions of the Public Works Department for the month of June 2000 are as follows: ENGINEERING DIVISION ■ Attended a pre -construction conference at MDOT for the Main Street project. A major part of the project will be the installation of our two new water mains from North Main to Center Street. ■ Working with MDOT and Montana Power on the Willow Glen and Woodland intersection project. We have to re -locate a water main and four services within the project limits. ■ Had a kick-off meeting with our Facility Plan 2000 consultants and several members of the Public Works staff. ■ Attended a Claremont Street Sidewalk Committee meeting. ■ The Second Alley East Sewer Replacement bids are currently being evaluated. ■ Conducting daily inspections of the Sidewalk Replacement Project. ■ Completed 2°a Alley East Sewer Improvement Project drawings. ■ Assisted Project Manager with surveying various sidewalk projects and inspections. ■ Started to make the changes for the new City organizational chart. ■ Completed ward map for City web page. ■ Assisted City Surveyor with various corner and utility locations for the Willows Subdivision. ■ City Specials: June - added $2,654.74 to annual revenues for City Special Assessments. OFFICE AND STAFF There were 6 emergency call -outs for the month of June: KO ■ Water Division - 1 ■ Sewer Division - 1 ■ TSS Division - 4 ■ Street Division - 6 WWTP - ■ Total - 6 CENTRAL GARAGE 93 repair orders were completed during the month of June: ■ Police - 20 ■ Streets - 17 ■ Fire - 10 ■ Garbage - 10 ■ Others — 36 ■ Total - 93 ■ Continued regular maintenance of City vehicles and machinery. ■ Responded to numerous road calls. ■ Repaired hydraulic leak on fire truck. ■ Replaced hydraulic motor on Elgin sweeper. ■ Replaced hydro pump on ice -melt truck. ■ Welded broken grabber, replaced water pump and replaced the rear brakes on the garbage truck. ■ Replaced water pump and radiator in the Public Works van. ■ Replaced heater core on garbage truck. ■ Replaced voltage regulator on the TSS pickup. SANITARY/STORM SEWER DIVISON ■ Continued video and jet cleaning of sewer lines Monday through Thursday. ■ Performed weekly maintenance of sixteen lift stations each Friday. ■ Installed sewer in Woodland Park to service the main restrooms and the Youth Camps. SOLID WASTE DIVISION ■ Delivered 15containers to new customers: 9 -100 gallon, 1 -400 gallon, 5 -300 gallon. ■ Repaired 8 containers and responded to 8 violations. ■ Continued weekly garbage service. ■ Continued weekly alley cleanup, Street Division assisting. ■ Dan Anderson was hired as the new operator for the Solid Waste Division. STREET DIVISION ■ General sweeping and flushing of City Streets. ■ Prepped various alleys for paving. ■ Assisted the Solid Waste Division. ■ Distributed water and mag-chloride Lawrence Park. ■ Patch in City yard — 33 tons. ■ Swept and flushed streets in preparation for chip seal. ■ Assisted Sewer Division with installation of sewer line in Woodland Park. ■ Water and mag-chloride distributed in alleys for dust control. ■ Assisted the TSS Division with installation of fence at the new Rosauer's store. ■ Utility cuts at Buffalo Loop and West Montana. WATER DIVISION WATER PRODUCTION & STORAGE: ■ Produced 124 M gallons of water: 34 M gallons upper zone and 90 M gallons lower zone. ■ Injected 262 gallons of sodium hypochlorite, 12% solution to maintain an average chlorine residual of 0.23 PPM throughout the system. ■ Continued routine maintenance on all pumps, motors, chlorination equipment, grounds, buildings, controls, testing, and record keeping. ■ Completed lift station and abandoned old septic tank at Noffsinger Spring. ■ Completed landscaping of ditch at Noffsinger Spring. ■ Replaced hot water heater at Noffsinger Spring. ■ Contractor repaired roof at Depot Well and installed a new roof on the Depot Well chlorine room. ■ Repaired the leak at Buffalo Well. ■ Continued painting interior of pump houses. ■ Met with staff from Land and Water Consultants and staff from Morrison & Mairele, and HDR Engineering regarding the Water and Sewer Facility Study. ■ Researched prices and ordered parts to complete repairs on the telemetry system which was damaged by lightening. WATER CONSTRUCTION AND SYSTEM REPAIR: ■ Tagged 69 delinquent accounts on the West Side of Kalispell. ■ Completed 89 work orders during the month June. ■ 8x1" water tap at 2nd Avenue West and 10th Street West. ■ Removed old fire hydrants at: ■ 1st Avenue East and 9th Street East ■ 1 st Avenue East between 6th & 7th Street East ■ 1st Avenue East between 7th & 8th Street East ■ 2nd Avenue East and 7th Street East ■ 1" Avenue East and IOth Street East ■ 728 3Td Avenue West 0 1st Avenue East and 7th Street East WATER CONSTRUCTIONAND SYSTEMREPAIR continued... ■ Replaced fire hydrants at: ■ 71h Avenue West and 5th Street West ■ 71h Avenue West and 6th Street West ■ lst Avenue East and 8th Street East ■ 1st Avenue East and 1 Oth Street East ■ Replaced curb box and curb stop at 112 6th Avenue East. ■ Installed a 4" and 2" tap at Commons Loop. ■ Continue to paint water valves. ■ Repaired 1" service line at South Woodland Avenue. ■ Started exercising valves on the west side of Kalispell. ■ Located valves, service lines, and curb boxes at South Woodland and Willow Glen and ran 300' of 1" PVC. ■ Dug 20" and 6" water main at 93 North and North Main for outside diameter and location. ■ Dug an 18" water main at Center Street and Main Street for outside diameter and location. TRAFFIC SIGNS & SIGNALS DIVISON ■ Continued regular maintenance of signals, signs, luminaires, barricades, sight obstructions, and Airport lighting. ■ Tested fire pre-emption at all intersections. ■ Striped runway at the City Airport. ■ Tested the AC contactors on the luminaire system. ■ Repaired signal light for the City of Whitefish. ■ Finished painting numbers on the south end of the City Airport runway. ■ Installed new safety green school crossing sings around Linderman School. ■ Replaced the faded signs on East Center Street. ■ Responded to several service calls on traffic signals in Whitefish. ■ Attended a demonstration on thermoplastic application. ■ Installed new museum signs at Idaho and 3rd Avenue EN. ■ Pruned trees and bushes at Woodland Avenue and 2nd Street East to clear sight obstruction. ■ Built a type II barricade at the end of 3Td Avenue East by the Rosauer's store. ■ Striped 1st Street East for angle parking. ■ Provided 17 hours of support to MDOT for sign and signal repairs in NW Montana at the following locations: Hwy 93 & West Wyoming, Idaho & Main Street, Main Street & 11th Street, Main & 4th Street, Hwy 93 & Conway, and Hwy 93 N & 13th Street. WASTEWATER TREATMENT DIVISION ■ 160 Work orders were completed during the month of June. ■ 360 Lab tests were performed during the month of June. ■ 21 Loads of sludge were hauled during June. ■ 95,628 pounds of bio-solids were pressed. ■ There were no discharge permit violations for the month of May. ■ The total flow through the Plant was 59 million gallons; the average daily flow was 1.9 million gallons.
