Kukulski, City Manager Confirmation of Officer Kevin McCarvel MEETING DATE: July 17, 2000 BACKGROUND: Officer McCarvel has successfully completed his one-year probationary period and as a result needs to be confirmed by the City Council. Attached is a letter of recommendation from Chief Garner. Both Officer McCarvel and Chief Garner will be present for Monday night's confirmation. RECOMMENDATION: The City Council approve Officer McCarvel's confirmation. FISCAL EFFECTS: None ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by the Council. Respectively submitted, Chris A. Kukulski City Manager Report compiled July 10, 2000 The Kalispell City Manager Chris Kukulski 300 l" Avenue East Kalispell, MT 59901 Mr. Kukulski, I respectfully request that Officer Kevin McCarvel be confirmed as a Patrolman for the Kalispell Police Department. Officer McCarvel has successfully completed his one-year probationary period as of July 14, 2000. Officer McCarvel is an outstanding officer and ambassador for this department and our city. Kevin has superior personal skills and he has exemplary work habits. He is known as a compassionate and competent officer with extremely high moral and ethical standards. Officer McCarvel is a team player with a strong desire to constantly strive to improve himself and those around him. I know that as a department we have been made better as a result of Kevin's presence. When confirmed, Kevin will be presented with his first Kalispell Police Department full shield badge during his confirmation hearing with the council on July 17, 2000. That badge symbolizes his commitment to our department and this community, to our ethical and professional standards and to the profession of policing. In accepting his shield Kevin recognizes that it is a symbol of public faith, and he accepts it as a public trust to be held so long as he is true to the ethics of the police service. He must be and I know he will be solemn in his oath to constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating himself to this community in his chosen profession of law enforcement. Kevin has earned the right to wear the full shield badge for this city and I wish to give him my highest personal and professional recommendation for confirmation as a police officer with the Kalispell Police Department.
