Jobs Now Request for City Health Insuranceof Kalispell ,?"y.; ' ;....^'.': .,s' ..5::�-�e.,�.^ Post Office :•x 1997 - Kalispell, Montana 59903-1997• 41 11 41 REPORT TO: FROM: SUBJECT: MEETING DATE: Mayor Boharski and City Council Members Amy Robertson, Finance Director Chris Kukulski, City Manager Jobs Now -Director's application for Health Insurance October 2, 2000 BACKGROUND: the following is recent legislation regarding economic development organizations such as Jobs Now and health insurance. 2-18-702 (b) The governing body of a county, city, or town may, at its discretion, consider the employees of private, nonprofit economic development organizations to be employees of the county, city, or town solely for the purpose of participation in group hospitalization, medical, health, including long- term disability accident, or group life insurance contracts or plans as provided in subsection (1)(a). The governing body of the county, city, or town may require an employee or organization to pay the actual cost of coverage required for participation or may, at its discretion and subject to any restriction on who may be a member of a group, pay all or part of the cost of coverage of the employee of the organization . Job's Now is hiring a new director and would like participation in our Plan . They will be paying the full cost of those premiums. Participation would begin November 1 S`. The premium would be paid in advance. See attached letter. RECOMMENDATION: Approval FISCAL EFFECTS: The City's administration would be limited to providing Blue Cross with a new employee form and the writing of the monthly receipt. The inclusion of one more family in our self insured insurance plan should be a positive. Annual premium would be $5,568. ALTERNATIVES: As suggested by Council.
