SUBJECT: Bids for Replacement Backhoe — Water Fund
MEETING DATE: December 18, 2000
BACKGROUND: The current Water Fund budget includes funding of $63,000.00 for a replacement
backhoe. Two bidders collected specifications and submitted bids by the deadline of December 1, 2000.
Bids were submitted by Long Machinery for a Cat model 430D for $56,255.00 and by Triple W
Equipment for a John Deere model 41OG for $58,900.00 (Long Machinery also submitted a bid for a Cat
model 41OD backhoe but this model does not meet the specification for digging depth.) The Street
Superintendent's evaluation is attached for information. Both machines have been found to meet the
specifications. Therefore, we recommend acceptance of the low bid from Long Machinery in an amount of
$56,255.00 for the cat model 430D backhoe. The bid price does not include a radio that will be added after
delivery at an approximate cost of $500.00
RECOMMENDATION: Accept the bid of Long Machinery to supply a cat model 430D backhoe.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Expenditure of budgeted Water funds totaling $56,755.00 comprised of
$56,255.00 for the backhoe and $500.00 for the radio.

There were two bidders on the backhoe. Long Machinery of Kalispell bid a CAT 420 D at
$49,538.00 and a CAT 430 D at $56,255.00. Triple W of Kalispell bid a 410 G at $58,900.00.
The CAT 420 D does not meet spec and was not considered. The CAT 430 D and the John Deere
410 G both meet specs.
I recommend the low bid by Long Machinery for the CAT 430 D at $56,255.00.
$63,000.00 is budgeted.
There was one bidder on the asphalt patch machine. Process Heating of Seattle, WA bid a Patch
King PK 40 H at $33,792.00. The Patch King PK 40 H meets spec.
I recommend the sole bid by Process Heating for the Patch King PK 40 H at $33,792.00.
We will need to use some of the excess money for installation.
$36,000.00 is budgeted.
