SUBJECT: Bids for Asphalt Patch Machine — Water Fund & Sewer Fund
MEETING DATE: December 18, 2000
BACKGROUND: The current Water Fund budget includes funding of $21,600.00 and the Sewer Fund
budget includes $14,400.00, a total of $36,000.00, for an asphalt patching machine. A single bid was
submitted by Process Heating of Seattle Washington for a Patch King model PK 40H. The Street
Superintendent's evaluation is attached for information. The Patch King PK 40H meets the specifications.
Therefore, we recommend acceptance of the bid from Process Heating in an amount of $33,792.00 for the
Patch King PK 40H patch machine. This machine will be installed onto an existing truck. Installation costs
for materials and specialized labor will be in addition to the basic bid and will not exceed the funds
available.
RECOMMENDATION: Accept the bid of Process Heating to supply a Patch King PK 40H asphalt
patching machine.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Expenditure of budgeted Water and Sewer funds not to exceed $36,000.00
comprised of $33,792.00 for the patch machine with the remainder for installation on existing equipment.

SUBJECT: BACKHOE AND ASPHALT PATCH MACHINE BIDS
DATE: 12/13/00
There were two bidders on the backhoe. Long Machinery of Kalispell bid a CAT 420 D at
$49,538.00 and a CAT 430 D at $56,255.00. Triple W of Kalispell bid a 410 G at $58,900.00.
The CAT 420 D does not meet spec and was not considered. The CAT 430 D and the John Deere
410 G both meet specs.
I recommend the low bid by Long Machinery for the CAT 430 D at $56,255.00.
$63,000.00 is budgeted
There was one bidder on the asphalt patch machine. Process Heating of Seattle, WA bid a Patch
King PK 40 H at $33,792.00. The Patch King PK 40 H meets spec.
I recommend the sole bid by Process Heating for the Patch King PK 40 H at $33,792.00.
We will need to use some of the excess money for installation.
$36,000.00 is budgeted
