January 2001 Council Meeting Dates
MEETING DATE: December 4, 2000
BACKGROUND: Ordinance 1166, Article II § 2-6, requires that regular City Council meetings
be held on the first and third Monday of each month. Article II § 2-7 establishes the succeeding
Tuesday as the meeting date when the Monday is a holiday. In January, 2001, both the first and third
Mondays are holidays. We anticipate a shortage of staff between Christmas and New Years which
will affect preparation of the Council packet for the January 2, 2001 meeting. Holding a meeting
on January 8, 2001 and another on January 16, 2001 would be problematic and probably not
productive. Therefore, it is my recommendation that Council members move the regular meetings
in January, 2001, to the second and fourth Mondays (January 8 and January 22). The Council on
occasion in the past has, by motion, changed meeting dates. So long as the City notices the meetings
through PSA's, the change should not affect public participation or otherwise adversely affect the
public. This change would be for the month of January only and can be accomplished with a simple
motion.
RECOMMENDATION: Council approve a motion to change the regular meetings in January,
2001, to January 8th and January 22nd.
